The Malaysian scene has had a rough time recently, which makes the announcement of the $9,000~ Selangor Cyber Games all the more brilliant. The DOTA2 tournament which is part of the multi-gaming event, is offering $3,000 for first place, a small fortune for the national scene.

The reputation of the local scene was smeared a month ago after the Arrow Gaming match-fixing scandal, which saw members of the team deliberately throw a match in exchange for financial rewards. Lance and DDZ contracts were terminated by their organisation but the players called foul play by their manager Jaren, claiming he told them to cover up their tracks or be removed from the team.

Furthermore, Team Malaysia which was primed to be a beacon of hope for the country as it reunited the line-up of Orange eSports from TI3, also ran into trouble, with the departure of Xtinct triggering defeat in the Summit 2 playoffs, and ultimately also contributed to the departure of Mushi.

Although, the 17,500 RM ($5,200~) prize pool for the DOTA tournament is a negligible one in more developed parts of the scene, it will certainly be well received in Malaysia. The Selangor Cyber Games will be over a weekend, December 13-14th, at the Encorp Strand Mall, Kota Damansara.
