Modder Jicyphex has announced over Twitter that the fan-favourite custom game mode is almost ready for a full release, with it likely to be released in the workshop in the coming weeks. Element TD will join the lineup of popular game modes in the Steam Workshop like Pudge Wars, Legends of Dota and Invoker Wars, which have all been well-received despite the lack of full custom game support from Valve.

Update from Jicyphex on Twitter last night

For the uninitiated, Element TD was one of the most popular custom maps for WarCraft 3, and it followed a traditional Tower Defense format. The appeal came from how content-packed it was; the game mode featured a vast amount of Creeps and and even larger amount of Towers to kill those Creeps with. It was regarded as a very solid game mode, which meant that while it may not have been the fanciest map available, it was consistently played and enjoyed.

The game mode being ported into DOTA2 is likely to please a lot of people, and those who remember it from back in the WarCraft 3 days aren't going to be dissapointed; the screenshots we've seen so far imply the latest version will stay true to the original.

Of course despite all the hype surrounding various custom game modes, full official support is yet to be released by Valve. We saw the release of DOTA2 Workshop Tools recently, which enabled custom games to be played in the client, but this feature is still in Alpha. Could the release of more popular maps like Element TD encourage Valve to push out a full release faster, or will Valve Time still be in effect?
